How to Delete Perplexity History (One Thread or All, Plus Memory)

Delete one Perplexity thread or all of them from your Library, clear saved memories, use Incognito, and turn off AI data retention. Plain steps for beginners.

Quick answer: Go to your History at perplexity.ai/library (older versions call it the Library). To delete one thread, click the three dots (…) next to it and choose Delete. To delete everything, click the three dots at the top right and choose Delete all sessions (older versions say Delete all threads). Neither can be undone. Saved memories are separate: clear them in Settings → Memory → Manage memories.

Perplexity is an AI search tool. You ask a question, and it writes an answer with links to its sources. Every question you ask is saved as a thread (Perplexity sometimes calls these sessions) in your History. That is handy for finding an old answer, but you may not want a list of everything you've ever looked up. Here is how to clean it up.

Delete one thread

  1. Sign in and open your History (in the side menu, or go straight to perplexity.ai/library).
  2. Find the thread you want gone.
  3. Click the three dots (…) beside it and choose Delete.
  4. Confirm.

You can also open the thread itself, click its three-dot menu, and choose Delete from there. On the phone app, the steps are the same: open your History, open the thread's menu, and delete.

Deleting a handful, not all? Click Select at the top of your History, tick the threads you want gone, and delete them together. The search bar and the Type filter (for example, Research) help you find old ones fast.

Threads you started in Perplexity's Comet browser, and Tasks you scheduled, show up in the same History, so these steps cover them too.

Delete all Perplexity threads at once

  1. Open your History (perplexity.ai/library).
  2. Click the three dots (…) at the top right of the page.
  3. Choose Delete all sessions (older versions say Delete all threads).
  4. Confirm when Perplexity asks you to double-check.

Perplexity says deleting threads can't be undone. If there is an answer you want to keep, copy it into a note first.

Delete Spaces (projects) and Pages

If you made a Space (a folder of related threads, now often called a project) or a published Page, deleting your threads doesn't remove those. Open the Space or Page, click the three dots next to its title, and choose Delete.

Uploaded files, pictures and things Perplexity made

Perplexity keeps files you upload for 30 days by default. There is no separate button to delete just a file. To remove an upload sooner, delete the whole thread you uploaded it in.

The same goes for pictures Perplexity made for you and anything built with Create files and apps (like a chart or a small web page): Perplexity's help page says to delete the whole thread. If you made pictures in other AI apps too, here's how to delete your AI picture history in ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok.

Clear what Perplexity remembers about you

Perplexity has a Memory feature that saves small details (like your interests or where you live) to shape future answers. Deleting threads does not delete these.

  1. Go to Settings → Memory.
  2. Choose Manage memories to see everything it saved.
  3. Delete single items with the trash icon, or use Delete all memories.

In the same place you can turn off Use search history (so old searches don't shape new answers) and the memory toggle. Turning memory off stops it from being used, but it doesn't erase what's already saved, so delete those too.

Ask without saving: Incognito

Want to look something up without it landing in your history? Turn on Incognito (the incognito icon at the top right). Incognito questions aren't used for memory and expire within 24 hours. Click the same icon to leave Incognito.

Stop your chats being used for AI training

On free, Pro and Max accounts, Perplexity keeps your data for AI training unless you turn it off. Go to Settings → Preferences and switch off AI data retention. This only covers what you ask from now on; it doesn't remove anything collected before.

Delete your Perplexity account

If you want everything gone, delete the account. Cancel any paid plan first so you aren't charged again.

  1. Go to perplexity.ai/account/details (or click your account in the bottom left, then settings).
  2. Scroll to the bottom to Delete account and click Learn more.
  3. Confirm in the pop-up.

Your data is deleted within 30 days. If you sign back in before then, the deletion is canceled. After that, signing in with the same email starts a brand-new, empty account.

Deleting is not a time machine

Deleting tidies your history. It doesn't undo something you already shared. If you typed a password, change it. If you shared a bank or card number, call your bank. And if a message claiming to be "Perplexity support" asks for a code or a payment, stop: see How to spot fake support. Next time, check our What never to paste list first.

Other AI apps

If you would not post it on a public bulletin board, do not type it into an AI chat.
