How to Delete All Google AI Mode Chats (and Gemini History)

Delete one Google AI Mode chat or all of them, then clear the copy in your Search history. Gemini app history steps too, on phone or computer.

Quick answer: Open AI Mode in Google Search (the quickest way is to go to google.com/ai), choose AI Mode history, then use the three-dot menu to Delete one chat or Delete all. Then visit your Search history at myactivity.google.com and delete the same activity there, because AI Mode searches are also saved to your Search history. The Gemini app is a separate place with its own Activity page.

Google has two AI chat spots that look alike but keep history in different places. This guide takes them one at a time, in plain steps, so you can clear what you meant to clear. Steps checked against Google's help pages on October 30, 2026.

Which one did you use?

  • AI Mode — The AI answers inside Google Search (on google.com, in the Google app, or from the AI Mode button in Chrome). Its history is tied to your Search history (part of Web & App Activity).
  • Gemini — The separate Gemini app or gemini.google.com. Its history lives in Gemini Apps Activity (Google has been renaming this setting to Keep Activity).

Not sure? If you typed into the regular Google search box and then kept chatting, that was AI Mode. If you opened an app or site called Gemini, that was Gemini. You can do both sections below to be safe.

Delete Google AI Mode chats

One chat or all of them

  1. Open AI Mode: go to google.com/ai, or search on google.com and tap AI Mode, or tap AI Mode on the home screen of the Google app.
  2. Make sure you are signed in to the same Google Account you used before.
  3. Open AI Mode history. On a computer it's on the left side of the screen; on a phone, look near the top.
  4. To remove one chat: next to it, open the three-dot More menu and choose Delete.
  5. To remove everything: open the More menu at the top of the history list and choose Delete all.

Then clear the copy in your Search history

Deleting from AI Mode history does not always remove every trace right away. Google says deleted AI Mode searches can still show up in My Activity for a short time, and are cleaned up automatically within about a day. If you started with an AI Overview and tapped into AI Mode, there may be two entries, and the first one stays in your Search history until you delete it.

To clean up now:

  1. Go to myactivity.google.com and open your Search history.
  2. Choose Delete, then pick Last hour, Last day, All time, or a Custom range. You can also delete single items one by one.

Stop saving AI Mode history going forward

In My Activity, open the controls for your Search history (older accounts call it Web & App Activity). You can turn it off, or set Auto-delete so older activity clears itself after a few months. Turning it off means AI Mode cannot pick up where you left off, which some people prefer.

Google says it is in the middle of updating the settings for its Search services, so on your screen this switch may be labeled something like history and personalized recommendations instead. It does the same job.

Make AI Mode forget one thing

If you're 18 or older and have personalization turned on, AI Mode can use your past searches to tailor answers, and you can tell it to remember details. Google says you can also ask it to forget something. Type a plain request in the Ask anything bar, for example: "Forget that I told you about my medication."

That is handy for one detail, but it is not the same as deleting. To remove the chat itself, delete it from AI Mode history as shown above.

If you connected Gmail, Google Calendar or Google Photos to Search so AI Mode can use them, you can disconnect them at any time in your Search settings.

Delete Gemini app history

On a computer

  1. Go to gemini.google.com and sign in.
  2. To delete one chat: hover over it in the side list, open the three-dot menu, and choose Delete.
  3. To delete many at once: open Settings & help → Activity (or go straight to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini). Choose Delete and pick Last hour, Last day, All time, or a Custom range.

On iPhone or Android

  1. Open the Gemini app (or gemini.google.com in your phone browser).
  2. To delete one chat: press and hold it in the list, or open its three-dot menu, and choose Delete.
  3. For bulk cleanup: tap your profile picture or the menu, open Gemini Apps Activity (or Activity), then choose Delete and a time range.

Stop saving Gemini chats

On the same Activity page, turn off Keep Activity (older versions call it Gemini Apps Activity), or change auto-delete to a shorter period. Google notes that recent chats are still kept briefly to run the service even when this is off.

Pictures you made with Gemini

A picture Gemini made lives in the chat that made it, so deleting that chat (or that stretch of Activity) removes it from My Stuff too. Google moves and renames these buttons often. If a step does not match your screen, look for the words history, Activity, or Delete near your profile picture or a three-dot menu, or search Google's help for "delete AI Mode history" or "delete Gemini Apps activity."

After you delete: it is not a time machine

Deleting removes chats from your visible history. Google's own help says some data can be kept longer, for example chats that a human reviewer already looked at, or data needed for legal or security reasons.

If you already typed something sensitive into AI Mode or Gemini:

  • If it was a password, change it now.
  • If it was a bank account or card number, contact your bank and watch your statements.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication on the affected account.

Need this less often

The best delete is the one you do not need. Before you paste into any AI tool:

If you would not post it on a public bulletin board, do not paste it into an AI chat.

Household rule: one person, one login

Sharing one Google Account across a household means one person's "Delete all" can wipe another person's history, and everyone can see everyone's AI Mode searches. Prefer separate Google Accounts. If you are helping a family member set up their own account, see our guide to signing up safely.

Frequently asked questions

How do I delete all my Google AI Mode chats at once?

Open AI Mode, go to AI Mode history, open the three-dot More menu, and choose Delete all. Then delete the same period from your Search history at myactivity.google.com so no copy is left there.

Is AI Mode history the same as Gemini history?

No. AI Mode is part of Google Search, so it is tied to your Search history (Web & App Activity). The Gemini app keeps its own history in Gemini Apps Activity, which Google is renaming Keep Activity. Clearing one does not clear the other.

How do I delete Google AI Mode history on my phone?

Open AI Mode in the Google app or your phone browser, open AI Mode history, and delete one chat or choose Delete all. Then open myactivity.google.com in your browser and delete the matching Search history.

Why do I still see an AI Mode search after deleting it?

Google says deleted AI Mode searches can linger in My Activity for up to about a day before they clear. If the search started from an AI Overview, the original search stays in your Search history until you delete it there too.

Can I make AI Mode forget one thing without deleting everything?

Yes. If personalization is on, type a request like "Forget that I told you about my medication" in AI Mode. Google says AI Mode can forget information you ask it to. To remove the whole chat, delete it from AI Mode history.

Will clearing history log me out of my Google Account?

No. Deleting history does not sign you out of your Google Account or other Google services.
