How to Delete Grok Chat History (One Chat or All, Web, App, and X)

Delete one Grok conversation or wipe them all on grok.com, the Grok app, or inside X. Plus Private Chat, Imagine pictures, and what happens after you delete.

Grok is an AI chat helper. You can use it at grok.com, in the Grok app for iPhone and Android, or inside the X app (the service that used to be called Twitter). Each place keeps a list of your past chats. Here is how to tidy that list, one step at a time.

Delete one chat

On the web (grok.com):

  1. Sign in and open your conversation history (the list of past chats on the left).
  2. Find the chat you want gone.
  3. Click the trash button next to it and confirm. On some versions the trash button sits behind a ⋯ menu.

In the Grok app (iPhone or Android):

  1. Tap your profile picture to open your conversation history.
  2. Touch and hold the name of the chat.
  3. Tap Delete Conversation.

Delete all your Grok chats at once

On the web:

  1. Click your profile picture or name, then Settings.
  2. Choose Data Controls.
  3. Next to Delete All Conversations, click Delete. The button changes to Are you sure? Click it again to confirm.

In the Grok app: go to Settings → Data Controls and tap Delete All Conversations, then confirm.

Your chats sync between the website and the app when you're signed in to the same account, so you only need to do this once.

Delete Grok image history (Imagine pictures and videos)

Grok can also make pictures and short videos (a feature called Imagine). Those are kept apart from your chats, so deleting your conversations leaves your pictures in place.

  1. Sign in at grok.com and click your profile picture, then Settings.
  2. Choose Data Controls.
  3. Find the Imagine delete button and confirm it. Depending on your account it reads Delete All Imagine Posts, Delete All Imagine Media, or Delete All Imagine Data.

This removes every Imagine picture and video at once, and it can't be undone, so download any keepers first. Files you uploaded and chat links you shared are separate and may need removing on their own.

Old details keep showing up in new pictures? Grok may be drawing on memory of your past chats. In the same Data Controls screen, turn off the memory switch (it may be called Personalize Grok with your conversation history or Personalize with Memories), then start the new picture in a fresh chat or a Private Chat. Using Grok inside X

If you chat with Grok inside the X app, that history is kept by X, not grok.com. Look in Settings and privacy → Privacy and safety → Grok for the option to delete your Grok conversation history, and for the switch about sharing your data for training. Menu names in X change often, so if you can't find it, check the X Help Center.

Chat without saving anything: Private Chat

Before you send your first message, look for the small ghost icon in the top right corner. Tap it to start a Private Chat. It won't show up in your history, and the company says it is deleted from its systems within 30 days. It's a calm choice for one-off questions about health, money, or family.

What happens after you delete

  • The chat leaves your list right away, on every device you're signed in on.
  • The company says deleted chats are removed from its systems within 30 days, unless they must be kept longer for legal, safety, or security reasons.
  • Turning off training (in Data Controls) protects future chats only. It doesn't delete anything you already have.

Want everything gone?

Deleting chats leaves your account in place. To remove all your Grok data, you can delete your account in Settings → Data Controls → Delete Account. That is permanent. If you pay for a Grok subscription, cancel it first.

Deleting is not a time machine
